Electric Shock Hurts Construction Workers at King of Prussia Mall

An electrical incident at King of Prussia Mall left at three construction workers hospitalized Monday morning -- one worker seriously hurt.

The incident outside the mall along W Dekalb Pike in Montgomery County around 7:30 a.m. left the workers hospitalized at Paoli Hospital, said Montgomery County dispatchers.

An Omni Electrical worker was performing a primary service relocation in the redevelopment area when the incident occurred, said IMC Construction president & CEO Robert Cottone.

The workers were using a scissor jack lift and cutting cables then they cut a wire energized with 13,000 volts and 200 amps, said Upper Merion Township Police.

Officers arrived to find a 36-year-old worker unresponsive on ground. Officers administered CPR and used an AED in an attempt to revive the man, said police.

That man remained in critical condition. The other worker, a 27-year-old man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, said police.

A third worker was also hospitalized as a precaution, said police.

As SkyForce10 hovered overhead a short time later you could see two firetrucks responding to the mall near the Macy's store at The Court section of the shopping mall. Police said firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire.

"Everyone at the mall and involved in the project are primarily focus on the injured individual and are hoping for a fast recovery," said Cottone.

The incident caused the delay of power service to one section of the mall to be delayed by an hour, said Cottone.

The mall opened as regular with some areas experiencing the temporary outage, said a mall spokesman.

The expansion project is adding a 155,000-square enclosed corridor that links two sections of the mall, more than 60 new stores and a new parking deck. It's expected to be completed in the fall of 2016.
