Delaware County

Flooding Closes Blue Route for 1 Hour

As spurts of heavy rain struck the area Monday morning, flooding caused the closure of a major area highway.

Flooding closed the northbound Blue Route (Interstate 476) between Broomall/Upper Darby (Exit 9) and Saint Davids/Villanova (Exit 13) in Delaware County shortly before 5:30 a.m.

The closure caused traffic the backup quickly. Crews directed traffic off the highway but backups remained as work crews tried to clear water from the road.

It took about one hour to get the water to recede and traffic flowing again.

Traffic continued to move southbound.

Flooding was also reported along busy New Jersey roads. The state Transportation Department said there was flooding on Interstate 287 north of Exit 39 in Hanover leaving two lanes closed. And, flooding blocked the left lane at Interchange 13A on the New Jersey Turnpike.
