Teen Shoots Fellow Teen in Delco: Cops

A drug deal gone bad leaves a teenager shot in the abdomen, cops say

An 18-year-old was shot around the area of Poplar Street and W Ashland Avenue in Darby Township Monday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 3:15 p.m. as a drug deal went wrong possibly related to a something that happened over the weekend, Darby Township Police said.

The victim was hospitalized in critical but stable condition after being hit once in the abdomen, cops said.

Police were quickly on the scene, which is just blocks away from a few schools. Two of the schools were locked down as authorities searched for a suspect.

Some witnesses followed the alleged shooter and alerted police to his whereabouts, cops said.

Within forty minutes police zeroed in on a home on the 600 block of Beech Street, authorities said.

The block was locked down temporarily before the suspect was taken into custody.

Around 6:50 p.m. police arrested the 16-year-old suspect. His name wasn't released since he is a minor.

It appears that the shooting victim along and/or a 17-year-old boy were possibly trying to attack the alleged shooter with a golf club before the shooting.

The boys were apparently there to buy weed and marijuana was found on the scene, cops said.
