Robbery Suspect Leads Cops on Wild Chase

Woman, 2 cops hurt as suspect tries to flee police

Four people including two cops were hospitalized after a fleeing robbery suspect led police on a wild chase in the Elmwood section of Southwest Philadelphia.

The incident happened a little before 11 a.m. around 65th and Elmwood.

Police were responding to a gunpoint robbery at 61st and Elmwood were in pursuit a gold Oldsmobile driven by the 24-year-old suspect.

The suspect reportedly ran a red light ramming into a minivan and sending it into a corner deli. A 69-year-old female passenger in the van suffered broken ribs and was hospitalized in stable condition, Philadelphia Police said.

The suspect got out of the car and tried to flee on foot, cops said.

Police caught up to him within a block and pinned him using their vehicle, cops on the scene said.

The officer claimed he didn't intentionally hit the suspect, according to a police spokesman.

The two officers and the suspect were taken to the hospital, cops said.

One officer suffered cuts to his forehead that possibly required stitches while his partner hurt his head in the crash. Both officers were expected to be treated and released.

The suspect suffered multiple leg injuries and was in critical condition, cops said.
