Woman Shoots Squatter She Found in Dead Dad's Home: Police

A Delaware woman shot a homeless man after she allegedly found him inside her late father's New Castle County home Tuesday morning.

County police told NBC10.com that the 50-year-old woman shot the alleged squatter, identified as 21-year-old Gregory Alexander, along the 1900 block of W Newport Pike in Stanton around 6 a.m.

Investigators say the woman and her 17-year-old son went by the boarded up house, which belonged to her deceased father and is being renovated, to check up on things. When she went inside she found Alexander sleeping in the bedroom, according to police.

Police say the woman confronted Alexander leading to a physical altercation between the three. The woman then pulled out a handgun and fired one shot as she drove away, striking Alexander in the buttocks, according to investigators.

Alexander fled on foot but was captured in nearby woods after a brief manhunt. He was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman and her son also suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment.

Alexander is charged with criminal trespass and offensive touching. He will be arraigned following his release from the hospital. The Attorney General's Office is investigating the shooting to see if any other charges will be filed.

Neighbors told NBC10 that in recent weeks people could be seen partying and/or sleeping in the home.
