Some Flights Grounded at PHL After Bag Gets Past Screening

Security incident at Philadelphia International Airport after a bag requiring further screening makes it past TSA

Travelers leaving Philadelphia were delayed for about two hours Tuesday afternoon following a bag that required extra attention.

The incident happened at the security check for Gates B/C around 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. It delayed some US Airways flights, the airline said.

A bag went through security check but and needed to be checked further, a Transportation Security Administration spokesman told NBC10.

The bag however kept going, TSA said.

Officials say they were working to locate the bag before it got on a plane. Why the bag needed extra attention wasn't clear, the TSA would only say that it just required a second look.

By 3 p.m. the airline says it decided to let planes go but some passengers would not have their bags on the aircraft.

By 3:45 p.m. the only delays at PHL reported by the Federal Aviation Administration were weather-related delays up to 39 minutes for planes arriving in Philly.
