Baby Abducted From Hospital Found Safe, Mom Charged

A 2-day-old infant was found safe and taken back to the hospital he was allegedly abducted by his own mother Thursday afternoon.

The baby boy was abducted from the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, according to state police who sent out an Amber Alert.

The newborn, was in the custody of the Department of Human Services, although police did not say why. The baby had an alarm sensor on his umbilical cord when he was taken around noon, police said.

The infant and his mother were found about five hours later at a house on Kingsessing Avenue. The infant was taken back to the hospital and police took his mother, 39-year-old Tonya Dixon, into custody.

Dixon faces child endangerment and reckless endangerment charges, cops said.
