ATV Rider Dead After Northeast Philly Crash

Medical personnel were unable to save a 38-year-old man who crashed and flipped his all-terrain vehicle while driving on a Northeast Philadelphia street Thursday morning.

The driver was pronounced dead  at 1:55 p.m. at Aria Frankford Hospital several hours after the ATV landed by a metal fence along Magee Avenue, not far from Algard Street, in the city’s Mayfair section.

The deadly crash occurred just before 11 a.m. as the driver traveling northbound in a driveway located between the 6500 blocks of Walker and Algard streets, police said. The 38-year-old man was traveling at a high rate of speed when he attempted to make a right turn onto the 4300 block of Magee Street and lost control of the ATV, officials said. 

The ATV flipped three time before hitting the ground, landing on top of the driver, investigators said.

Medics rushed the man to Aria Frankford Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

It is illegal to drive an ATV on any city streets, sidewalks, parks or recreation centers, according to Philadelphia Police.
