Police Make Arrest in Center City Restroom Stabbing

A 64-year-old man was robbed and stabbed six times Thursday morning in Center City, Philadelphia Police said.

The incident happened around 11 in a public restroom on the Market-East concourse level of the Bank of New York Mellon Independent Center at 7th and Market.

The victim, Ben Davis, stumbled out of the bathroom and just around the corner to a salon where his wife was getting service, according to Salon Hair Express owner Ren'ee DeSanto.

DeSanto described the attack as "outrageous."

"He basically fought him off until he could get out of the bathroom, got help from a guard, he made it over to the salon where it got dramatic because my mother saw what he went through," said the victim's son Ben Davis, Jr.

Davis, a Camden, N.J. resident, was taken to Jefferson Hospital where he was listed in critical condition but was upgraded to fair condition later in the day.

The suspect is William Berrioz, 25, according to police sources.

After allegedly stabbing Davis a half dozen times in the back and chest with a large hunting knife, Berrioz reportedly fled and punched a security guard that tried to stop him, sources said.

The suspect didn't make it very far as an officer was able to stop and arrest him.

Berrioz is charged with robbery, attempted murder, assault and weapons charges.

Bail has been set at $300K.
