Car Crash Causes Massive Power Outage

Officials say a car struck a pole in Mantua, NJ

Power remained out early Easter morning for hundreds of customers after a car crash in a Gloucester County town.

Officials say a car struck a pole on Route 45 and Mantua Road in Mantua, N.J. around 9:20 p.m. Nearly 1950 customers in the town lost power as a result.

By 1 a.m., Atlantic City Electric restored the power for 1175 customer but the power remained out for 775 customers in the town as crews continued to place wires back up and reattach equipment to the damaged pole.

"They've run into some complications in repair work," said Matt Likovich, a spokesman for AC Electric. "They'll probably be out of service for another few hours."

By 3 a.m., a utility spokesman said power was restored. By 8 a.m., there were few, if any, outages reported system wide by A.C. Electric.

No one was injured in the car crash.

It's unclear what caused the wreck.
