Bristol Palin “Devastated” by Bitter Break Up

Teen mom Bristol Palin is "devastated" by the bitter break up with her hockey-loving high school sweetheart who fathered her child, according to reports.

The 18-year-old daughter of former vice presidential candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin split from former beau Levi Johnston three weeks ago after she referred to the family of her former fiance as "white trash," the sister of Johnston charged in Star magazine.

Mercede Johnston, 18, said Palin dumped her unemployed brother and has made it tough for him to see their baby boy, Tripp.

"Levi tries to visit Tripp every single day, but Bristol makes it nearly impossible," she told the magazine. "She [Bristol] tells him he can't take the baby to our house because she doesn't want him around 'white trash!'"

Palin released a statement saying she is "devastated" by the break-up with the fiance she planned to marry after finishing high school -- but Johnston's sister said Palin won't allow her ex around their child unless he's babysitting.

"Bristol won't even allow him to watch the baby for a few hours unless he's babysitting," she said.

She also alleged that Sarah Palin endorses her daughter's behavior.

"I used to love Sarah," Mercede said. "But I've lost lots of respect for her."

A source close to the pair told People Magazine that it's unclear what caused the split, but that "it was a mutual thing." The couple caused a stir during the presidential race when is was revealed that the then 17-year-old Bristol was pregnant.

"It kind of just happened," the source said of the break-up. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."
