UPenn Mourns Nursing Student

A vigil is planned to remember Arya Singh, a junior nursing student

UPenn junior nursing student Arya Singh died Feb. 8.

"Her smile was one that stood out. You only saw her smiling," said fellow nursing student Molly Blais of North Jersey. "When I did talk to her, she was always positive and happy."

Singh's cause of death is unknown. Philadelphia Department of Health spokesman Jeff Moran told NBC10 that the results of the autopsy are "pending."

A candelight procession has been organized by her sister Shweta Singh for 6:30 p.m. tonight on UPenn campus, starting at College Green. More than 1,000 people have RSVP'd on Facebook.

The Daily Pennsylvanian reports the circumstances surrounding her death are unclear. Moran said it could be weeks before the autopsy report is completed.

The "Penn Compliments" Facebook profile posted to its wall Monday: "Arya Singh: you brightened up campus every single day just by your smile and being so incredibly loving. You will be missed so very much. Rest in peace."

Blais described student reaction to Singh's death, "For the most part it's surreal. Everyone is reminiscing. I'm not sure how much has sunken in as a whole."
