Child Dies, 5 Hurt in Row Home Fire

Neighbors tried to rush into a burning row home in South Philadelphia Thursday morning, but the fire was too intense.

One child died and fire other people were hospitalized, included at least one other child.

Kenisha Williams saw the flames shooting out of the third floor window of the home around 2:30 a.m..

"Then I just start seeing everyone jump from the second floor window," Williams said. "The woman who lived there was screaming, saying her newborn baby was stuck on the third floor."

Firefighters got to the scene in the 19-hundred block of Carpenter Street in four minutes. They were able to rescue the baby, who is now at CHOP. When the fire was out, they found the body of another child inside the home.
