Vick Could Equal Fantasy Gold

Michael Vick hasn’t started an NFL game since the last day of 2006 but that hasn’t stopped fantasy footballers from gobbling up the Eagles backup -- likely turned temporary starting -- quarterback.

In CBS leagues Vick went form being owned in just seven percent of all leagues in Week 1 to 66 percent this week (plus-59 percent).

In ESPN leagues the Birds QB went for being owned in only 4.5 percent of leagues to more than 55 percent of leagues in the last seven days.

And, in Yahoo leagues, Vick was by far the most added player Thursday as nearly 40,000 players added him to their rosters.

So what does all this mean for the Eagles on the field? Well not much except that with Kevin Kolb out for Sunday, according to reports, Vick should start against a porous Lions defensive backfield.

Last week against the Bears Detroit’s D allowed Bears QB Jay Cutler to carve out 372 yards and two TDs through the air.

Vick should be able to put up some impressive numbers this week. Counting on him to put up 350 yards (including on the ground) might not be much of a stretch. And he could get the Jaguars next week if Kolb still can’t play. So, go out and grab Vick in those 30-plus percent of leagues where mysteriously the 30-year-old signal caller remains on the open market.

Just don’t expect the Vick points party to last. Coach Andy Reid insists the once Kolb is over his concussion he will be back behind center. But what if Vick tears it up the next week or two? We’ll have to see.
