The Roots Headline July 4 at Art Museum

FRIDAY
Go Forth: In celebration of all the 4th of July festivities and the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War, Art in the Age has invited design collective Heads of State to transform the store into a Civil War battlefield. The team created a series of screen prints and archival images that represent battle scenes, war torn capitals, regimental flags and more. 6-10 p.m.

Sing Along: Grab your blanket and your picnic, get a spot near the fountain in Love Park for a giant projection of Hairspray the Sing-A-Long. This may be the only time in your life you can get away with singing every word to every song without annoying everyone around you. 9 p.m.

SATURDAY
Block Party: The annual Chinatown Block Party happens today, surrounding the traditional performances and dragon trains happening at 10th and Race. You can sample some Chinese cuisine, including various meats-on-a-stick (our favorite), make your own noise makers and do some shopping at the open-air market. 12-4 p.m.

Improvise It: Catch an evening of some of the best improv groups in the city, including Jessica Tandy, the perfect duo of Andy Moskowitz and Jessica Ross; Grimacchio; and the long-form duo of Jason Grimley and Ralph Andracchio. Best part: the Shubin is BYOB. 7 p.m.

SUNDAY
Rad-B-Q: The Making Time boys are back again with their dance party-meets-island-luau-meets-pool-party at the Bamboo Lounge. This time around, special guests London's T3ETH and Puro Instinct will perform on the main stage. And, as always, you can enjoy a fish bowl of your favorite fruity beverage, and burgers provided by PYT. $10; 6 p.m.-2 a.m.

Ice Scream: The Super-Scooper all-you-can-eat ice cream festival is today at Penn's Landing. Pay $7 (benefiting children with leukemia) and sample all the ice cream, frozen yogurt, gelato and water ice you desire from over 30 vendors. 12-5 p.m.

MONDAY
Fireworks and Parades! Happy Independence Day! We'll be bar-hopping our way through the parade if you'd like to join us. Later, check out the crazy musical line-up at the art museum and stay for the fireworks!

Going out can be a gamble, so why leave it up to chance? Stack the deck every Friday by peeping Play's Weekend Bender
