This week's profile is Susan Taylor from Pinehill, New Jersey. Philly fashion guru Catriona Whitehead tells us why Susan is this week's That Girl.
What I like about this look.
I enjoy Susan’s vintage dress, chic haircut, and sultry gladiator sandals. While she is only wearing two pieces, this lovely woman looks fashion forward. The vintage quality of this light pink dress speaks to her appreciation for the fashion that came before her, and it fits her properly. The band hugs the smallest part of her waist, the hemline brushes the top of her knee, and she has enough room in the shoulders and bust to breath and function normally. The black mesh gladiator sandals being quite modern in appearance—sharpen the whole look by contrasting the softness of the dress. She could also have done this with an insane stiletto or some chunky booties.
Where could this outfit be worn?
This outfit is most appropriate for dining out, holidays (albeit with a more seasonal shoe), and baby/bridal showers. The dress is joyful and lighthearted, speaking towards times of celebration.
Where can you buy this particular look?
I recommend hunting in secondhand, vintage, or thrift stores to score a dress like this. However, if you want the same type of dress in a more modern cut, try any major department store, Anthropologie, or Modcloth.com. For a gladiator sandal of this nature, you’ll have better luck late winter at Aldo, Charlotte Russe, ShoeWoo, Steve Madden, and Rampage.
Style tip?
If it were up to me, I would recommend pairing a statement necklace (such that are available at Anthropologie, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, and JCrew), some opaque tights (in black, gold, deep green, or plum), and some daring heels (I'm talking platform stilettos). This will give the outfit a more finished look.
