Philaplace.org allows people from the different Philly neighborhoods to share stories online and connect not only to each other, but to the history of the area.
Did you know that Giordano's Produce in the Italian market started out as a small produce stand in 1921 and was staffed by the 13 children of the Giordano family? There's a great black and white picture of Paul Giordano, Sr. and the youngest son talks about growing up in the market area.
The Web site offers users a variety of mediums to submit their stories -- text, pictures, audio and video clips and podcasts.
The Philadelphia Historical Society created the site to capture the people's take on the City of Brotherly Love and to keep an ongoing record of what is happening, culturally, in the city's neighborhoods.
The official launch with be Dec. 9 at 5:30 at the Mayor's Reception Room in City Hall. Admission is free.
