Stairs Looking to Step Up His Game

Despite a distinguished career filled with key pinch-hits and homers (including one monster blast in last year's NLCS), Phillies free-swinger Matt Stairs recently can't get a hit.

He has struggled to find his groove since the All-Star break going 0-for-27 since he ripped a pinch-hit homer against the Pirates, according to MLB.com.

Stairs has a career total of 84 pinch-hits for 73 RBI with 18 pinch-hit homers but right now Stairs is in the middle of the worst slump of his career.

The Stairs we know and love is the one who lumbers up to the plate in a big situation and delivers with a majestic blast like he did against the Dodgers in the NLCS. But for some reason he just can't seem to get it going again.

“I need one good swing, one good hit to get me going,” said the veteran Stairs. “I’ve been around for a while and I understand it can be a blooper or a bleeder to get you started.”

Stairs has four hits and 11 RBI as a pinch-hitter in 2009 -- let's hope he can add to those totals.

Sometimes all it takes is a little sunshine to break the rainstorm.
