So Long, Swallow… Hello, Sonata!

New menu will have a "little flash"

Restaurant School alum Mark Tropea is cooking up a new locale on American Street in Northern Liberties

The former executive sous chef at the Desmond Hotel plans to open up Sonata in July, after a paint job, some new decorations and staff training, reports Philly.com.

Not to be confused with the fuel-efficient car of the same name, the new restaurant will have seating for 45 and 37.4″ of leg room in the rear, Foobooz reports.

Sonata will replace Swallow, a mac and cheese bistro that obviously went the way of the birds... (yes, we know, that was just too cheesy...)

Tropea told Philly.com that the food at the BYOB will be contemporary American "with a little flash, but not enough to scare people away."  (Of course, the entree prices might manage that on their own; they'll be priced between $22 and $28.)

Sonata's hours will be Tuesday through Sunday for dinner, with lunch a possibility if traffic supports it.
