Shop 'til You Drop at These Local Spots

It seems that police in center city used the term to describe the horrendous traffic conditions and consumer chaos of the shopping day. So, in honor of our Black Friday roots, get your credit cards out and get ready to shop. Here’s a few ways to get your shop on and celebrate the start of the holiday shopping season.

If you plan to start your shopping early, the Philadelphia Premium Outlets will be offering an After-Thanksgiving Weekend Sale. It will feature the Midnight Madness event that begins at midnight on Thanksgiving night with its collection of outlet stores like Adidas, Neiman Marcus and Perry Ellis offering deep discounts.

The Northeast YMCA is hosting the Black Friday Scramble to help families make the shopping experience a little easier. After all, the best bargains begin early, so the Y is opening its doors bright and early at 5 a.m. to help out. Trained staff will entertain the kids (ages 2-10) while you get your shopping done. Plus, to give you a competitive edge in the fight for deals, the community center will have coffee and donuts waiting and a stretching program to get you in gear. The kids will get to do arts, crafts, swimming and other activities while you’ll get a peaceful shopping experience. $40 per child for members. Registration required.

Doylestown’s Annual Holiday Celebration lets you stroll the streets of one of Buck County's best shopping districts, enjoy carolers, cookies, cider and plenty of holiday lights, not to mention Santa on a fire truck. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. and Santa arrives at 6:30 p.m.

Had enough shopping? After the stores close, head for LaRose Jazz Club for their Blues Dance Party with acclaimed Philadelphia blues band, The Dukes of Destiny. It all starts at 8 p.m. and the entry fee is $12 but for an additional $8 you can dine in style on a soul food buffet. It’s sure to be a night of blues, old school soul and lots of dancing.
