Shola Olunloyo has bounced back from his highly-publicized fallout with developer Bart Blatstein and their project, Speck Food and Wine, and straight into the pages of Food & Wine Magazine. Sources tell The Feast that the reclusive chef is being featured in the July issue for a piece on summer entertaining. The shoot took place last week at super-kitchen Bulthaup Studio, and in the art deco-inspired Ayer Condo building.
The story was set up when Speck was still in the works, and the magazine requested recipes for the future article. After the lockout, Shola contacted Food & Wine to alert them to the change, but Editor-in-Chief Dana Cowin insisted that the article move forward with or without the restaurant, as they wanted to be the first national pub to promote Olunloyo and his recipes. It's a solid vote of confidence for the oft-maligned food scientist, and gives Philly a little salve after the sting of being left out of the Best New Chef conversation. [The Feast]
