Renault Winery: A Mediterranean Retreat Off the A.C. Expressway

With 1,400 acres of vineyards, Renault Winery offers wine connoisseurs a treat. The wines, ranging from whites like Reisling, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio to red Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Cayuga (to name a few) are reasonably priced and available in the extensively stocked wine shop. 20-minute winery tours provide a glimpse into the winery’s highlights, including the Fountain Room, Antique Glass Museum (which boasts a priceless champagne and wine glass collection dating back to medieval times), European Courtyard and an Antique Winemaking collection. You’ll also get a glimpse of the Pressing Room and Wine Cellar, with its giant oak and redwood casks. The tour concludes, of course with a rich reward of wine and champagne samples. Tours are free on weekdays and $3 on Friday and Saturday when an extended tour schedule is offered in the evening.

As a state historical site, the winery has been producing wines for over a century. In contrast, a few years ago, the winery opened a full 18-hole golf course that has received excellent ratings by golf enthusiasts. Just across the road from the winery and golf course is Renault’s Tuscany House Hotel, a rich cream colored villa with graceful archways and a breathtaking grand entrance with sweeping staircases and an exotic indoor garden.

There are two main restaurants at Renault, a gourmet restaurant and the more casual, Joseph’s. Joseph’s Restaurant features Mediterranean a la carte dishes such as garlic studded salmon and Moroccan spiced shrimp and scallops along with a full service bar.

The gourmet eatery, offers a unique six-course meal that includes a special appetizer, homemade soup, pasta, sorbet intermezzo, gourmet salad and two wine samplings. The main dining room was once used to make champagne and keeping with the history of the site, the restaurant has incorporated the wood from the original 100-year old oaken casks into the furniture.

The winery will be hosting two major events this summer. The Sounds of the Opera comes to Renault on Friday, July 25 with the Milza Family and Tuscany Singers together for a concert with cocktail reception before the show and includes a four-course dinner afterwards. Reservations are required for the show and dinner, which together cost $69.

Enjoy the Splendors of the Sea Dining with the Chefs event on Friday, August 22. This is one of the winery’s most popular events of the year and features a shore-themed dinner for $75 per person.
