Red Carpet Recap: White Nights

White is the new black this award season.

The Golden Globes were held two weekends ago, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards were last weekendand the Grammys were held on Sunday. Fashionably speaking, each event was very unique. Odd outfits aside (Lady Gaga), there was one theme I couldn’t help but notice -- white was in.

I didn’t realize it then, but Kate Hudson set the tone for eye-catching white gowns at the Golden Globes. Her white dress by Marchesa had everyone talking and taking notice. The following week, Kate went with white again to the SAG Awards, wearing a very fitted Monique Lhuillier dress with an open back and a diamond pendant displayed in the open back.

Marion Cotillard wore a short white dress by Elie Saab to the SAG Awards. Cotillard’s dress had beading on the top and white feathers on the short skirt.

At Sunday's Grammys, Rihanna carried on the trend. She wore a white gown with feathers, beads and chiffon designed by Elie Saab (Elie Saab likes feathers). The top had a high neck, with the feathers almost creating the look of a turtleneck. Feather turtleneck aside, the dress was tame for Rihanna, but not all that flattering.

Carrie Underwood went white, too. Her dress was a long, one-shoulder gown with satin edging at the top. And who could miss her very large diamond engagement ring?

Jennifer Lopez, a presenter, wore a Versace gown that was white with metallic mesh. The dress had a large piece down the front, but was short on the sides. It looked like two different dresses cut up and sewn together.

White was big, but of course black was in, too. Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Hudson and Kristen Bell all wore black.

My favorite dress of the night? Jennifer Nettle's dress. Her red dress with black trim had well-positioned cut-outs and fit her perfectly. The dress was from the Victoria Beckham Collection. Posh may no longer be part of the Grammy scene as a singer, but her design work is representing her well all the same.
