Officials say a live electrical wire fell on top of a New Jersey Transit train in Newark and 1,000 passengers were stuck inside for nearly two hours.
NJ Transit says the overhead power line landed on the top of the train shortly after leaving Newark's Penn Station around 6 p.m. Tuesday. Passengers were kept on the train as crews de-energized the wire. The train was then pulled back to the station around 8 p.m. and passengers were transferred to other trains to continue their commute.
The transit agency says that the train lost power and heat while it was stopped.
NJ Transit reported residual delays along the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line and Raritan Valley Line.
The train originally left New York's Penn Station at 5:45 p.m.
