Officer Hurt in Crash Near Eagles Opener at Lincoln Financial Field

A car collided with a police cruiser Sunday morning injuring an officer as traffic backed up in the stadium area in the minutes before the Eagles home opener in South Philly.

The officer suffered undisclosed injuries after the officer’s cruiser was struck at Broad Street and Packer Avenue around 11:30 a.m., according to Philadelphia Police.

Medics rushed the unidentified officer to Methodist Hospital in stable condition. No one in the other vehicle was hurt, police said.

The crash caused heavy damage to the police vehicle and moderate damage to the civilian car, according to police.

Police directed traffic around the scene of the crash as thousands of fans flocked to Lincoln Financial Field for the Eagles home opener at 1 p.m. against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Police didn’t say if the people in the private car were headed to the game.

The exact cause of the crash remained under investigation Sunday afternoon.
