Plate Restaurant is tucked away in Ardmore’s premier shopping center, Suburban Square. Plate’s menu is diverse, offering everything from a personal pizza cooked to perfection in a stone fire oven ($8) to homemade macaroni and cheese (I highly, highly recommend this, $4.50), to a grilled skirt steak salad (romaine lettuce, gorgonzola crumbles, tomatoes, and skirt steak with an Italian vinaigrette drizzle topped with crispy onion straws, $14.95) for lunch and dinner dishes such as prosciutto wrapped rainbow trout (stuffed with lump crab meat and a balsamic brown butter sauce, $19.95) and slow cooked beef brisket (covered in barbeque sauce and served with potato salad and coleslaw, $18.95). You can even order off the children’s menu (but you have to order a double), if nothing on the regular menu strikes your fancy.
With most entrees under $20, for dinner, Plate could be considered a steal. However, with most of the prices for lunch about the same, a mid-day meal could get a little pricey.
Although the food was delicious and left me almost (I said almost) too full to shove another bite into my mouth, I do have one small complaint. While the service was friendly, I did find it a bit unattentive. Once our food was served, we didn’t see the waiter again until the check was presented. Thus leaving us thirsty (both of us needed refills on our sodas) and impatient.
Overall, Plate gets two thumbs up and with outdoor seating available during warm weather seasons, it's a good place to relax over lunch, dinner or drinks.
