The Phillies have inked a key bench contributor to a two-year deal.
Greg Dobbs will be staying put in Philly thanks to a $2.5 million contract.
Dobbs who can play either corner outfield position or third base hit .301 with nine home runs and 40 RBI in 128 games last season. He led the majors with 22 pinch hits and overall batted .355 with two homers and 16 RBI coming off the bench.
In two full seasons with the Phillies, Dobbs has hit.327 as a pinch hitter with four homers and 34 RBI.
“Over the past two seasons, Greg has been one of the best pinch-hitters in the game and has also contributed significantly as a third baseman,” said Assistant General Manager Scott Proefrock.
The signing means that the Phillies have bought the 30-year-old Dobbs out of his first two years of salary arbitration.
Dobbs should see time next year both as a pinch hitter and spelling Pedro Feliz at third base.
