Philly’s James Beard Award Winners

Philly restaurants and some of the chefs that make them great were well represented by the James Beard Awards.

Koo Zee Doo, of Northern Liberties racked up the honors. They were recognized for Best New Restaurant and chef David Gilberg received awards for Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic and Rising Star Chef. Koo Zee Doo's pastry chef, Carla Goncalves, was also honored with the aptly Outstanding Pastry Chef award.

Blackfish restaurant in Conshohocken's chef Chip Roman was named a Rising Star Chef.

James Burke, chef at James Restaurant in Center City received the award as a Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Chef Jose Garces, Philly's own Iron Chef, received the award for Best New Restaurant for Chifa, which features Peruvian and Cantonese fusion cuisine.
Chef Konstantinos Pitsillides was named a Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic region for his restaurant Kanella, a must visit for Greek-Cypriot food.
The Starr Restaurant Group, parent company of Philly favorites like Buddakan, Continental and Alma de Cuba was honored with the Outstanding Restaurant Award.
Jeff Michaud, chef at Osteria, the Tuscan inspired restaurant in Fairmount, was named one of the Best Chefs in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Michael Solomonov, executive chef at Zahav in Society Hill, was named a Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Terence Feury was named a Best Chef of the Mid-Atlantic region as well. His restaurant, Fork in Old City, features a bistro menu.
The Fountain Restaurant at the Four Seasons was honored with the Outstanding Service Award. (They also serve some tasty food.)
