How about ringing in the New Year for an entire week?
Mayor Michal Nutter, along with Camden Mayor Dana Redd and representatives from SugarHouse Casino and the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, announced Philadelphia’s first New Year’s Week celebration.
“Because our celebration, quite frankly, has become so big and takes up more than one night, we’re also announcing the debut of Philly’s New Year’s Week,” Nutter said during Thursday's press conference. “Many events and activities will be taking place throughout the city and region during this week.”
From Dec. 26 until Jan. 2, there will be plenty of exciting and entertaining events for everyone in the Philadelphia region.
The week of events features events at local museums, theaters and even the annual Mummer's Parade.
Nutter also announced this year’s theme for the NYE fireworks display. With Philly and Camden joining forces, this year’s show is appropriately named, “Two Cities, One Waterfront: Twice the Fireworks, Twice the Fun” presented by SugarHouse Casino.
There will be two firework displays at Penn’s Landing on New Year's Eve -- the first at 6 p.m. and the second at midnight. People could even be able to watch the fireworks show from the newly opened Race Street Pier.
