Phillies, A Peanuts' Affair, Clean Up!

Friday:

Opening Day: The Phils opening day is finally here! Of course, being the crazed sports fans we are, there are a bounty of parties to choose from, but there is something drawing us to Atlantis:The Lost Bar for their $1 Hot Dog and the Very Last 1/4 Keg of Joe Porter party. There is the additional promise of prizes and Phils chants. 1-4 p.m.

Love Letters: It's First Friday. A show we will definitely be checking out is the 'This is a Love Letter' show at Space 1026. The show will display private love letters written between Peanuts cartoonist Charles Schulz and native- Philadelphian Tracey Claudius from the early '70s. This is the first time Claudius' daughter will be showing the 100+ letters between her mother and Schulz, providing a glimpse of their tender, sweet two-year love affair. 7-10 p.m.

Saturday:

Spring Clean: Today is city-wide Sping clean-up day. And, believe it or not, Philly always has record turn outs to these things every season. Check your neighborhoods for flyers or meet up at the Schulykill Banks East Riverbank, under the Walnut Street Bridge (enter on Locust St.) to pitch in to clean up the park by scrubbing graffiti, clearing trash and mulching. Check out the Philadelphia Streets website for more info. 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.

PIFA Begins: The month-long Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts begins today with a massive Parisian street fair set up on Broad Street. Expect mimes, an old-fashioned Ferris wheel, music, games, etc. Check out our PIFA picks to plan your calendar.

Sunday:

Warpaint: Catch the melancholy, psych-pop of the all-girl group Warpaint tonight as they play the TLA. Brooklyn's minimal think-rockers Family Band will open. $13 9 p.m.

Weekends can be a gamble, so why leave them up to chance? Stack the deck every Friday by peeping Play's Weekend Bender.
