Paris Comes to Philly

Take a trip to Paris with the 2011 Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts

While the 2011 Philadelphia Flower Show is behind us, the feel of France is still in the air.

Paris meets Philly all month long with the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA). From April 7 through May 1, the 25 day celebration will host 135 events and 1,500 artists.

Everything officially kicks off Friday at 6:00 p.m. with the opening night gala at the Kimmel Center. The event will feature performances from both the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Pennsylvania Ballet.

Making sure there is never a dull moment, the festival will feature a variety of activities and events across the Philadelphia area. With a host of musical performances, art shows, special exhibits, cultural showcases, and wine tasting events, there is something for everyone.

Other highlights will include a fashion show featuring local designers on April 8 at the Kimmel Center's Commonwealth Plaza as well as a Parisian street fair along The Avenue of the Arts on April 30.

Topping off the French-themed festivities, the 81-foot tall Eiffel Tower complete with 6,000 light bulbs gets lit up inside the Kimmel Center -- twice -- at 7 p.m. and again at 10 p.m.

With food, fun, and the arts, for the next three weeks, is there really any reason to resist a little Parisian immersion?
