Pa. Attorney General Asks for Cash

Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane isn't running for governor, yet she joined some of the Democratic gubernatorial candidates in year-end appeals for campaign cash.

Kane has vowed to complete the three years remaining in her four-year term as the state's chief legal officer.

Her political committee spokeswoman, Aubrey Montgomery, says Kane needs money to ward off potential challenges from special interest groups.

Montgomery says all contributions are reviewed by an off-duty senior staff member and returned if there are conflicts of interest. Contributions from employees also are returned.

Kane is not up for re-election until 2016. West Chester lawyer Sam Stretton, an expert on legal ethics and election law, says raising so much money so early sends the wrong message for an attorney general.
