For fallen officers, Sergeant Stephen Liczbinki and Sergeant Timothy Simpson, there is a sad twist of fate.
Officer Liczbinki and Simpson were former patrol partners, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
After Liczbinki’s death, Simpson took over his squad at the 24th District.
Simpson handcuffed Liczbinski’s alleged killer with the slain officer’s handcuffs. This is a department tradition that represents the capture and arrest of a police officer’s alleged killer.
Simpson also drove Liczbinki’s police cruiser in the Port Richmond Day Memorial Parade.
Now, 6 months after Liczbinski’s death, Officer Simpson will be laid to rest after his patrol car was slammed by a black Camero and plowed right into the side of a building. This time, the alleged killer will be arrested wearing Simpson’s handcuffs.
