This Friday, Tony Inchote will open his highly-anticipated Thai restaurant, Sawatdee, at 1501 South Street. Philly has long-suffered a dearth of legitimate options of the popular Southeast Asian cuisine, and Inchote is dedicated to expanding our horizons to include traditional curries and noodle dishes, as well as veggie plates and yes, Pad Thai.
Inchote, who cooked on the line at Susanna Foo (which scored four bells from Craig LaBan) and the much-beloved Dmitri's, has not completed the menu, but said we can expect it mid-week. With the uncertain future of Tyson Ophaso's Eat Thai at 6th and Catharine, and his departure from Tyson Bees, Inchote's new eatery is coming at just the right time.
The restaurant takes over the space which once housed neighborhood favorite Pico De Gallo, but switching cuisines from Mexican to Thai food isn't the only change you can expect at the corner of 15th and South Street.
"We're going strictly BYO," says Inchote. "And it's going to be a casual environment. Take-out and delivery will be available, and we'll have al fresco seating."
Whether or not the housemade thirst-slaking Arnold Palmer—which were served to each diner in their very own mini-pitcher—is still available has yet to be seen. Keep your fingers crossed. [The Feast]
