New Jersey Mother and Daughter Struck by Car

Authorities say a mother and her young daughter escaped serious injury when they were struck by a car while trying to cross a central New Jersey roadway.

Red Bank police tell the Asbury Park Press that 28-year-old borough resident Cecila Tecalero and her 6-year-old daughter, Dulce Marie Trejo, were in the crosswalk on Shrewsbury Avenue when they were struck just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Both were taken to a hospital, where they were treated for what authorities say appeared to be minor injuries. The driver of the car, 74-year-old Robert Ayotte, of Middletown, was making a left turn onto Shrewsbury Avenue when the accident occurred.

He was cited for careless driving and failure to yield to pedestrians. Ayotte was not injured in the accident.
