Mike Solo's Federal Donuts Debuts 10/17

The long-awaited debut of Mike Solomonov's Federal Donuts is finally taking place Monday, October 17 at 2nd and Federal Streets in South Philly. While Solomonov is known for his creative take on Israeli cuisine that has earned him numerous national accolades, including a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Mid Atlantic, comfort food is what he craves.

"I'm always in the mood for fried chicken. So, this is something I've always wanted to do. I've been really busy recently with a few projects, so I'm glad it finally came together. We'll be open for business next week," said Solomonov.

Federal Donuts, which we are lovingly calling FedNuts (others are calling it FedDo, but we think that's a little too close to the "Irish Bar" in Center City), will serve made-to-order fried doughnuts with a glut of creative flavor toppings, and Korean-style fried chicken. They will offer combo meals (starting at $8 for half a chicken and doughnuts) as well, so people can experience the best of both worlds.

Hot on the heels of Federal Donuts opening up, Solo also mentioned that their Center City outpost of Percy Street BBQ will cut the ribbon about two weeks after the big day in South Philly. [The Feast]
