Man Accidentally Shoots Himself During Standoff

Two Swat officers were shot during a standoff at a Summerdale home around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police arrived at the 800 block of Sanger Street to serve an arrest warrant for Nasuil Martinez, a man wanted for the shooting of Kevin Gorman.

When they arrived, Martinez allegedly shot one Swat officer in the helmet and the other in his bulletproof vest. Both officers survived the shooting.

After he shot the two men, another Swat officer exchanged gunfire with Martinez, according to authorities.

Martinez then barricaded himself in the basement of the home where he fired another shot.

After speaking with police on the phone and in the process of surrendering, Martinez then accidentally shot himself in the neck, according to authorities.

He was transported to Temple Hospital where he is currently in critical condition.

Samuel Fels High School which is located near the scene, has been closed due to the shooting. The students that were at the school early Wednesday morning were moved safely to Laura H Carnell Elementary School.
