Janna Gur Cooks at Zahav on 5/12

On May 12, Janna Gur, author of The Book of New Israeli Food, is coming to Zahav to cook with James Beard finalist Mike Solomonov. After a meet and greet cocktail reception with Chef Gur at 5 P.M., diners are invited to a five-course dinner at 7 P.M. The meal will set you back $50, and reservations for this very special event are required, so get on the horn right now.

The menu for the evening is coming straight out of Gur's cookbook: Chargrilled Eggplant with tehina and pine nuts, Gondi, chicken and chickpea dumplings in broth, Chraime, Moroccan fish stew with halibut and fresh couscous, “El Baboor” Kebab, with lamb, tomatoes and nigella, and Chocolate and Halvah Coffee Cake with Turkish coffee ice cream.

Chef Gur is the founder and chief editor of Israel’s leading food and wine magazine, Al Hashulchan Gastronomic Monthly, and The Book of New Israeli Food is her first cookbook. Mike Solomonov, who made a name for himself by updating classic Jewish foods, was also the first chef to bring Israeli cuisine to Kitchen Stadium when he faced off against fellow local homeboy, Jose Garces, on Iron Chef America.
