In a little more than 24 hours Mother Nature caused plenty of headaches and aggravation on Delaware roads.
From 8:00 a.m. Sunday to 10:00 a.m. Monday there were 87 total crashes in New Castle County, according to Delaware State Police.
Slick roads caused by a snowy mix with below freezing temps are being blamed in part for the crashes, said police.
Motorists are reminded to take it easy and go about things slower when bad weather occurs. Not only can physical injuries occur but also thousands of dollars in damages can happen when drivers don't devote their entire attention to hazardous roads, said police.
Basically put down the cell phone when driving in bad weather.
"Our hope is that motorists will see these statistics and make the safe and conscious decision to slow down, increase the distance that they are traveling behind the vehicle in front of them and focus their attention on driving vs. eating, talking on the cell phone, texting and other unnecessary tasks," said Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh with DSP.
