Admirers of Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program are familiar with the program's many (over 3,000!) murals decorating our city's landscape. We decided to take our admiration one step further by pairing up the paintings with complementary fashion finds from local designers and boutiques.
The Inspiration: Artist James Burns' mural, which decorates the facade of the Shoprite at Snyder Avenue and South Swanson Street. Completed in 2008, the mural is alive with juicy citrus and bright green kiwi slices, which dance throughout the painting's colorful cityscape.
The Match: Summer-ready jewelry from the Philadelphia-based Etsy shop, realfruitjewelry. The artist uses real fruit -- blood oranges, kiwi, starfruit, persimmon, strawberries, and more -- to create a line of jewelry affordably priced under $35. The fruit slices are dried then coated with a waterproof resin, which means they'll always be ripe and ready for the wearing.
