Grandmother Injured in South Jersey House Fire Dies

A grandmother hurt in a Gloucester City house fire died from her injuries over the weekend, according to police.

Lorraine Smolinski, 67, died Saturday at Cooper Hospital, just one day after she and her 27-year-old granddaughter were injured when fire tore through their Highland Avenue home, said officials.

White smoke could be seen for miles as SkyForce10 approached the house in Gloucester City, New Jersey just before noon Friday.

Both women were taken to Cooper following the fire. The 27-year-old victim was treated and released Sunday.

Fire officials believe the cause of the blaze was accidental. An investigation into the exact cause is underway.
