Author Azar Nafiji speaks tonight at the Central Library

Is the fact you couldn't get into your favorite restaurant this week having a sour effect on your mood? It's time to get a little perspective.

Tonight at the Central Library, Iranian author Azar Nafiji speaks about her new book, a memoir entitled Things I've Been Silent About. The book chronicles her upbringing in Iran, her mother's death and the stories her family kept secret throughout the years. Nafiji's previous best-selling book, Reading Lolita in Tehran, described women's lives in Tehran from the 70s through the 90s and the backlash she herself suffered for such perceived offenses as choosing not to wear the veil, a choice that ultimately got her expelled from teaching at the University of Tehran.

The event starts at 7:30 and is free to the public. No doubt hearing her stories will make you hunger for something a little more profound than dinner.
