Mark Bittman has been building his resume as author, foodie and man-about-Spain for some time now. (He was the other dude in Gwyneth Paltrow and Mario Batali's travel series "Spain On the Road Again" a.k.a. "How Really Rich People Bum Around Europe.") He speaks tonight at the Free Library to promote his new book Food Matters: A Guide to Conscious Living. The event costs $14 and starts at 7:30.
As evidenced in his blogs, books or column, Bittman's approach to food is first and foremost as a consumer and avid eater, and secondly as someone who makes a living from it. In both his blog ("Bitten") and column ("The Minimalist") Bittman champions simple, stripped-down flavors and methods in favor of the complicated and over-bearing.
In his new book, Bittman seem to be wearing a new hat -- that of a diet guru. Food Matters... breaks down the "big business" aspect of food, the impact of globalization and even outlines a plan to eat better, lose weight and get healthy. And who couldn't use a few more tips on that?
