Let The Games Begin

Global Game Jam 2011 challenges participants to develop an entire video game in 48 hours.

From the ancient times of Atari to the more modern days of Playstation, Xbox and Wii, people have spent countless hours playing video games.

Imagine all the time and hard work that goes into creating a gaming masterpiece. Now, imagine accomplishing it all in a mere 48 hours. That’s the huge task at hand for a group of video game lovers, as they take part in Global Game Jam 2011.

Hosted by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA), each year video-gamers from across the region come together to create an entire game within a short 2-day time span.

At the start of the challenge, participants are given a theme from which they can create a computer game, video game or board game of their choice. Once the theme is announced, the possibilities are endless.

According to the IGDA, this is a BYOT event, where attendees are urged to bring their own tools and technology to assist them in game development.

This year’s challenge will be held at IndyHall on N. 3rd Street. in Philadelphia. The games began Friday at 5 p.m. and run until Sunday at 3 p.m.
