Funeral Director Investigation Leads to Gruesome Discovery

Decomposing bodies found in mortician's funeral home

A Pennsylvania funeral home director is charged with with multiple counts of theft by deception and abuse of a corpse after investigators said they found decomposing bodies during a search of the business.

Lancaster County officials announced the charges Friday against Benjamin Siar, owner of Gundel Funeral Home in Conestoga.

There is a warrant out for the arrest of the 41-year-old mortician and authorities are urging him to surrender.

District Attorney Craig Stedman said several families paid Siar thousands of dollars for cremation services that were never provided.

Stedman said in a search of the funeral home on Thursday, authorities found four decomposing bodies, including that of a 2-year-old girl police say was beaten to death earlier this year.

More charges will be filed as the investigation continues, according to Stedman.
