Fun and Free for Thanksgiving!!

With all of Philly’s impending budget cuts and library closures, isn’t time we showed our local libraries some love? Here’s what’s happening this week in the city:

Souls of Freedom: A Living History of Africans in America
The local performance group, Keepers of the Culture are set to engage audiences at the Central Branch Library with storytelling, music and performance art. The group will re-enact major events from the Civil War era using poetry and song. This performance is the last of the library’s Sundays on Stage presentations.

Just before Thanksgiving, give yourself a workout and something to talk about over turkey by joining in on the Chinese Folk Dance workshop that’s being presented at Philadelphia Independence Branch.

Unwind after Thanksgiving dinner or shopping by stopping by the Independence on Black Friday for a Tai Chi Class. This is the last class being offered in the Tai Chi series, so get in on it while you still can!

In the 'burbs:

The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library is opening its latest exhibit, Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln’s Journey to Emancipation. If you are into American history or a Civil War buff this is a must-see exhibit. The library is one of only 63 libraries nationwide that are displaying the traveling collection, which features reproductions of rare historical documents as well as period photographs, lithographs, cartoons, and political ephemera.
