West Catholic Football Star Curtis Brinkley Shot

The running back was signed by San Diego this year

Philly football star Curtis "Boonah" Brinkley was shot Friday morning in Cheltenham Township, according to Cheltenham police.

Brinkley, 23, was inside his car near the intersection of Spring Avenue and Ashbourne Road. The gunman came up to the car on foot, fired multiple times, hitting Brinkley, said police.

Brinkley fled the scene to a "place of safety" police said and they took him to Albert Einstein Medial Center. Police say Brinkley was able to talk to them when they found him. The hospital says Brinkley is in fair, stable condition. The gunman ran to a nearby car and took off, according to police.

The San Diego Chargers signed Brinkley as a free agent this year. He was a standout running back at Syracuse and a star at West Catholic where he rushed for 7,429 yards and 85 touchdowns, breaking the Philadelphia prep school record previously held by NFL running back Kevin Jones, according to Philly.com. In his senior year at West Catholic he had a record-setting 2,813 yards.
