First Look: Giambattista Valli x Macy's

Last night, we got a first look at the forthcoming Giambattista Valli for Macy's collection, which hits 225 of the chain's nationwide outposts next Wednesday, October 26.

The former Ungaro design head's collection is the third of Macy's Impulse team-ups this year, following Matthew Williamson (in May), and Karl Lagerfeld (which launched in August).

Read on for our quick style chat with Macy's women's fashion director Nicole Fischelis, and click through for a look at the pieces that will hit stores and the web in a few short weeks.

THE FEAST/SHOP: The dresses here range from all-black and playful to metallic animal print. How can shoppers style them?
NICOLE FISCHELIS: Obviously, you can wear either to a cocktail dinner or drinks. But you can also wear them for day: It's all about fusion these days. You can go for high heeled strappy sandals or ankle booties, from an oversize clutch to a double-handled satchel. Accessories and outerwear like a dramatic evening coat or leather jacket — they aren't just about function, but about fashion, too. You can work with them to create different looks.

How does this collection differ from that of Karl Lagerfeld?
What we try to do with each designer that we select is to address their strengths, and work with how it relates to the season. Giambattista is all about sophisitcation and glamour. His sense of color, style, and fit was a good one for November.

What are the standouts of this collection?
NF: All of the fabric manipulation and the couture workmanship. There's a big return to that this season all around. It's a perfect match.
