There is plenty to do with Dad this Father’s Day in Philadelphia no matter what his interests are.
For the athletic Dad – Run, or walk, in the Gary Papa Run 4 Your Life to benefit prostate cancer research and awareness. Online registration is $25 and ends June 17. Day of registration costs $30.
For the funny Dad – Take him to the Father’s Day Comedy Show, “I Can Make You Laff.” The show is hosted by Joe Torry and features comedians Michael Blackson, Hamburger Jones and Bro’Man. Tickets are $25 or $35 for VIP. Doors open at 8 p.m., the show begins at 8:30 p.m. at First District Plaza.
For the boat-loving Dad – The Spirit of Philadelphia offers a lunch cruise and a dinner cruise on Father’s Day. Both include an all-you-can-eat buffet and DJ entertainment. Take Dad to see all the beautiful views of Philly’s waterfront. The lunch cruise boards at noon and costs $47.90 per person. The dinner cruise boards at 6:30 p.m. and costs $64.90. Kids three to 12 are half price.
For the history-buff Dad – During Father’s Day weekend, the National Constitution Center will honor our founding fathers as well as Rome’s. Visitors can explore the lives of Rome’s Emperors, including Augustus, Nero, and Trajan. Event times are 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
For the picnic-loving Dad – You have two options. The Father’s Day Rally Committee is holding its annual Father’s Day Picnic at Belmont Grove from noon to 6 p.m. According to their website, the FDRC’s mission is to “promote positive action and interaction among individuals to prompt more aggressive hands on action toward resolving a range of problems confronting African American communities in Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley.”
Or you can take Dad to Graeme Park in Horsham from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a lunch of hotdogs, pork, sausage, sandwiches and a beer and wine tasting. You will also get to tour the Keith House, the only surviving residence of a Colonial PA Governor, and see re-enactors demonstrate work done by colonial fathers. The day costs $20 for teens and adults and $15 for kids and seniors (65+).
If Dad prefers a nice meal out, there are plenty of specials in the Philadelphia area. Bistro St. Tropez is giving Dads a free 14 oz. grilled black Angus rib-eye meal for dinner on Saturday and brunch on Sunday.
Del Frisco’s is featuring a $35 dinner special from 5 to 10 p.m. This is a steal for the upscale steakhouse.
Tavern 17 will give Dad a free meal if one of his kids buys a brunch entrée.
So take Dad out on Sunday and don’t forget to tell him how great he is.
