Emaciated, Abandoned Dogs Found in Home

Officials with the SPCA rescued a dog and her extremely malnourished puppy after they were found abandoned inside a home in Chester Monday morning. The dogs were discovered by the constable after an eviction notice was posted on the door of the house.

The dogs, which officials say appear to be merle Pit Bull Terrier blends, were taken to the Delaware County SPCA in Media where they received medical attention.

SPCA officials say the approximately 5-month-old puppy, named Bambi by the SPCA staff, weighs only seven pounds. According to officials, a dog her age should be three times her current weight. She is currently in critical condition.

Bambi’s mother, renamed Faline by officials, only weighs 26 pounds. Officials say as a young adult dog, she should weigh at least 40 pounds.

Officials are currently investigating a possible owner of the dogs allegedly responsible for their neglect and abandonment. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.

SPCA officials say the dogs will receive regimented feedings and supplements over the next several days.
